Pledge Program

The Pledge Program is an interfaith partnership between Catholic Community Services and local churches and faith-based organizations.  It is a way for churches and faith-based organizations to pool their resources to help meet urgent needs when no other resources are available.  The following story demonstrates how it works.

John came to Catholic Community Services looking for help.  Because of some unexpected expenses, he was $140 short of what he needed to pay his rent and avoid eviction.  We made some calls, checked out his story, and verified that it was a legitimate need.  We gave John a pledge sheet and invited him to call local churches to ask for pledges.

John made calls until he received pledges from five churches in the Eugene/Springfield area.  Each church pledged $20-50 and it added up to the $140 John needed.  CCS called the five churches to confirm the pledges, issued a check for $140 directly to John’s landlord, and then collected the pledges from the churches.

The Pledge Program is targeted to small, urgent needs that can’t be met in any other way.  Churches and faith-based organizations choose to participate in the program on a case-by-case basis.
