The new Eugene Community Service Center at 1464 W. 6 th began providing services to program participants on December 7. On December 16, the Service Center was open to the public who were welcomed by remarks from Mayor Kitty Piercy, Comprehensive Fundraising Campaign chairs Mike and Colleen Bellotti, and Executive Director Ed Monks.
Ed Monks presented a brief overview of the timeline that concluded with the celebration that evening. He extended the agency’s gratitude to the Mayor for the City’s support for CCS’s acquisition of the building through a CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) grant of $91,800. He also recognized Lane County Commissioner Rob Handy, who attended the event and added his congratulations on the opening of the spacious location of the new Eugene Center. The opening remarks were concluded with comments from both Colleen and Mike Bellotti, chairs of the CCS’s Comprehensive Funding Campaign, who addressed the audience as a kick-off of the public stage of the campaign.
Visitors viewed the greatly expanded Food Room area, the expansive reception area, comfortable and private interview areas, new handicapped accessible rest rooms, and staff office areas. The new facility continues to provide food boxes, housing assistance, emergency services (prescription assistance, personal items, clothing), and referrals to participants in the Whitaker area as it has in the W. 7 th location for over 15 years.
