But, the best part to me, is that
they will be in permanent housing and not have to leave when the
program is over, as in a shelter,” Stephanie continued.
The program is based upon a “permanent housing model” and
is supported by federal Housing and Urban Development funding.
In the Latino Housing Program, a family support worker will help
participants identify affordable housing in a neighborhood that
works for
the
family. The ideal housing for participants should be near places
of employment, schools, churches and child care facilities. The
ultimate goal of the program is
to help the household move towards self-sufficiency.
Stephanie concludes, “If
a household can move from homelessness to paying their own rent
and bills, that is a success for the family and our community.”
