Volunteer Story: Naomi

??????????Naomi, one of our most distinguished volunteers at 93 years young, has volunteered in our Springfield food room for over 2 years. Her faith in the Lord and love for people is what keeps her coming back, Friday after Friday. When St. Paul Catholic Church shared that CCS needed more food room volunteers, she felt she had an obligation to help others and that it was time to start volunteering again. Helping those less fortunate, and seeing the physical proof of her actions, is what makes her heart feel full.

One such instance of proof came when a man, gathering items for a food box, chose an onion that had already started to sprout. He told her he was going to take it home and plant it, so it would continue to feed him. This simple act stands out to Naomi because it showed her the constant need, one that she would continue to provide for as long as possible. Naomi says “what you give out, you get back”, so volunteering wasn’t a difficult decision to make, and she looks forward to her next time in the food room.
