The On-Boarding Process

Complete the Application, Permission to Request Background Check*, and Photo Release forms online or visit one of our service centers to complete a hard copy.

A CCS representative will typically call you within 3-5 business days to discuss available opportunities and options.

* To ensure the safety of our clients, staff, and volunteers, all volunteer applicants are required to provide their full legal name, date of birth, government-issued identification information, Social Security number, and signature as part of the application and background screening process. All personal information is kept strictly confidential, used solely for volunteer screening and recordkeeping purposes, and is never sold, shared, or released to third parties except as required to complete authorized background checks or by law.

The introductory phone interview gives us an opportunity to learn more about your interests and discuss current volunteer openings, available locations, typical schedules, and the ongoing commitment involved. We will also review our onboarding process, which includes a background check and volunteer orientation.

To ensure a safe and supportive environment for everyone we serve, the onboarding process may take several weeks to complete before a volunteer is able to begin service. Most volunteer positions involve a commitment of one shift per week, with shifts typically lasting 3–4 hours.

Volunteer orientation is typically completed prior to a volunteer's first shift or on the first day of service at our Springfield office. During orientation, volunteers review organizational policies and procedures, provide identification for verification purposes, and participate in an overview of Catholic Community Services, including our mission, programs, and expectations for volunteer service. Volunteers will also receive their volunteer t-shirt and have an opportunity to ask questions before beginning their service.

The volunteer application and onboarding process typically takes several weeks to complete before a volunteer is able to begin service. This timeline allows for the completion of background screening, orientation, and other onboarding requirements to ensure a safe and supportive environment for everyone we serve.

While we greatly appreciate every application, submitting an application does not guarantee placement as a volunteer. Volunteer opportunities vary based on current organizational needs, scheduling availability, and program requirements. At times, we may not have an available role that matches an applicant's interests, availability, or qualifications. We are grateful for every individual's willingness to serve and encourage applicants to inquire about future opportunities as needs change.
